About the Campaign:
The Bastrop Bird Junction Sculpture Walking Tour celebrates Bastrop’s identity as a Bird City -Bird City Texas Certified Communities in 2020 by Texas Parks and Wildlife and Audubon Texas. While enhancing tourism and cultural arts in the community. This public art initiative transforms the area into an engaging outdoor gallery, where visitors can experience a curated collection of bird sculptures. Each installation highlights the story of the bird, the vision of the artist, and the generosity of the donor, creating a rich and memorable experience.

The City of Bastrop, in partnership with the the Lost Pines Art Center, continues to expand the Bird Junction Sculpture Program as a way to celebrate public art, honor community heritage and enhance the cultural vibrancy of Downtown Bastrop.

The Bird Junction Sculpture Program is financed through hotel occupancy tax funds, citizen donations and grant

Barred Owl

About the Bird

The Barred Owl is a medium-to-large owl native to the forests of North America, typically weighing between 1 and 2.5 pounds, with females slightly larger than males. It is not endangered and is classified as Least Concern, living widely across the eastern United States, southeastern Canada, and parts of the Pacific Northwest in dense forests near water. Known for its round head without ear tufts, dark eyes, and brown-and-white barred feathers, it is also famous for its haunting call that sounds like “Who cooks for you? Who cooks for you all?”

About the Artist

Robin Luck is a master sculptor and the owner of her Smithville studio, where she has cultivated her artistic vision for over a decade. With more than 20 years of welding expertise and a diverse background in art, design, drafting, blacksmithing, and material processing, Robin combines technical precision with creative imagination. Her intricate and striking sculptures are the result of years of dedicated study and preparation, each piece reflecting her deep passion for wildlife—especially birds. Through her work, Robin captures the elegance and vitality of the natural world, transforming metal into living, expressive forms that inspire and captivate.

Red-Tailed Hawk

About the Bird

The Red-tailed Hawk is a large and powerful bird of prey found across North America, typically weighing between 1.5 and 3.5 pounds, with females larger than males. It is not endangered and is classified as Least Concern, living in a wide range of habitats including open fields, deserts, forests, and even urban areas throughout the United States, Canada, and parts of Mexico. Recognized by its broad wings, sharp talons, and distinctive reddish tail, it is often seen soaring high in the sky or perched along roadsides, and is known for its piercing, raspy scream often used in movies.

About the Artist

John Christensen, Talullah McColgin

Over the past 30 years, John has built a dynamic career spanning public installations, private commissions, and theatrical design. His portfolio includes more than 20 large-scale works and immersive environments for 30 modern dance productions seen around the world. Known for blending a wide range of materials and techniques, his work is thoughtful, expressive, and often unexpected. Continuing the artistic legacy, his granddaughter Talullah is a young and dedicated artist whose love of birds shapes her creative voice.
