How Items Work
Items are opportunities you can create for memorial programs, sponsorship and fundraiser opportunities, or volunteer activities.
Items are digital listings that help you display donation and volunteer opportunities for your community members or recognize contributions of the past.
An Item represents an opportunity to give back.
Items can be seen from the Map view or the Gallery view.
Items have a Desktop view and a Mobile view -
Item Quantity: Grouped as One or Individual Listing
An Item represents a giving opportunity that can be claimed. When creating Items in Bulk, a field called 'Display Item As' displays and gives you two options -
- Individual Listings - Selecting this option will create multiple Items that can be each claimed once. The Quantity set dictates how many Items will be created. All individual Items added are always 'Individual Listings.'
- Grouped as One - Selecting this option will create 1 Item that can be caimed multiple time. The Quantity set dictates how many times that Item can be claimed and shows this in the orange 'QTY Remaining' flag.
Items for Each Campaign Type
Each Item represents a single opportunity for a donor to give back.
Here's recommendations on how to create items based upon the three major categories of Items:
(1.) Memorial Programs - Create an Item for each asset you want to be dedicated or commemorated
Example: A Memorial Bench Campaign with 6 Benches will have 6 Items
(2.) Sponsorship/Fundraising Opportunities - Create Items in Bulk marked 'Grouped as One' for each giving level you want to offer and set the 'Quantity' field for the number of opportunities to be claimed; these Items are claimed one at a time and will sum to your total fundraising goal within the Campaign.
Example: Fundraising Campaign for $100,000 could have three giving tiers at Bronze (20 at $1,000 each), Silver (10 at $5,000 each), Gold (3 at $10,000 each)
(3.) Volunteer Services - Create Items in Bulk marked 'Grouped as One' for each Volunteer shift you need; these Items are commonly broken down by shift, role, or location for Volunteer.
Example: Volunteer Campaign that has three volunteer jobs will have 3 Items with the number of volunteers needed set in the 'Quantity' field.
Item Status: Available or Donated
Items in SeeMyLegacy always have a status of either Available or Donated -
- Available Items - How you digitize and share opportunities for community members to give back. These Items provide your community members visibility to what and where they can give, and allow them to take action effortlessly.
- Donated Items - How you catalog and celebrate contributions of the past. These Items bring recognition to what's been donated and who made them possible, acting as a celebration of past generosity.
Creating Campaign Items
Items can be created in bulk or added individually!

Additional Best Practices & Tips
Pricing Available Items
You have full control to set and update the price of your Items, but Communities typically factor in the following into their price:
- Installation and Labor Cost
- Cost of Physical Asset
- Cost of Plaque
Some Communities will increase the Item Price in excess of their costs to generate additional funds that can be used for other community events and initiatives.
Building Exciting Items
You can make your Items feel really special and compelling, here are some simple tricks:
- For Available Items: Use the Item Description to highlight what's in it for the donor and upload pictures to the Photo Gallery of what their funds or volunteer services will go towards.
- For Donated Items: Use the Item description to thank the donor for their contribution and upload pictures to the Photo Gallery of their donation or their volunteer participation.
Get Help Cataloging Past Items
To recognize and celebrate contributions that have already been made to your Community, you'll want to catalog these Items, but there are resources and groups that can help you do this.
Here are some of groups that Communities have engaged:
- Boy and Girl Scouts
- Community Foundations
- Community Clubs (Garden, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, and more)
- Park Volunteers
- Students and Youth Programs
