Creating Items
Learn about how easy it is to Create Items
Why Create Items?
Items help you display donation opportunities, or recognize contributions of the past
Communities create two types of Items in SeeMyLegacy
- Available Items - How you digitize and share opportunities for community members to give back. These Items provide your community members visibility to what and where they can give, and allow them to take action effortlessly.
- Donated Items - How you catalog and celebrate contributions of the past. These Items bring recognition to what's been donated and who made them possible, acting as a celebration of past generosity.
Creating Items One at a Time
Add Available or Donated Items one at a time.
Select the Add an Item button in the Campaign or All Items Tab
Fill in your Item Details
- Add Item Type, Name, Description, Photos, Quantity, Price, and Status. This information can be changed at any time. There are additional fields available for Donated Items.
Geo-Tag the Item
- Move the Item to the desired location. You can do this from within the Campaign or the All Items tab.

- For your Item to be accessible to the public, it needs to be Posted. Edit the Item to mark it as 'Posted?' = Yes.

What Kinds of Items Can My Community Create
Items typically represent one of three major kinds - (1) memorial programs, (2) sponsorship opportunities, or (3) volunteer activities.
Each Item represents a single opportunity for a donor to give back.
Here's recommendations on how to create items based upon the three major categories of Items:
(1.) Memorial Programs - Create an Item for each asset you want to be dedicated or commemorated
Example: A Memorial Bench Campaign with 6 Benches will have 6 Items
(2.) Sponsorship Opportunities - Create an Item for each sponsorship you want to offer; these Items are claimed one at a time and will sum to your total fundraising goal within the Campaign.
Example: Fundraising Campaign for $20,000 could have 4 Items at $5,000 a piece or 10 Items at $2,000 a piece.
(3.) Volunteer Services - Create one Item for each Volunteer you need; these Items are commonly broken down by shift, role, or location for Volunteer.
Example: Volunteer Campaign that needs 4 Volunteers will have 4 Items.
Tips on How to Create Items
Best Practices
Items typically represent memorial programs, sponsorship opportunities, or volunteer services.
Pricing Available Items
You have full control to set and update the price of your Items, but Communities typically factor in the following into their price:
- Installation and Labor Cost
- Cost of Physical Asset
- Cost of Plaque
Some Communities will increase the Item Price in excess of their costs to generate additional funds that can be used for other community events and initiatives.
Building Exciting Items
You can make your Items feel really special and compelling, here are some simple tricks:
- For Available Items: Use the Item Description to highlight what's in it for the donor and upload pictures to the Photo Gallery of what their funds or volunteer services will go towards.
- For Donated Items: Use the Item description to thank the donor for their contribution and upload pictures to the Photo Gallery of their donation or their volunteer participation.
Get Help Cataloging Past Items
To recognize and celebrate contributions that have already been made to your Community, you'll want to catalog these Items, but there are resources and groups that can help you do this.
Here are some of groups that Communities have engaged:
- Boy and Girl Scouts
- Community Foundations
- Community Clubs (Garden, Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, and more)
- Park Volunteers
- Students and Youth Programs
